Impressive Robots – Part One

Impressive Robots – Part One

     1. Betty-bots (Amazon’s Kiva robots) :

These robots are used by Amazon to make the lives of their employees easier by bringing items to them instead of having them walk from shelf to shelf, looking for items. When an order is made on Amazon, the robot travels to the relative shelf which contains the required item. When travelling to find shelves, the Betty-bots move under shelves whenever possible, leaving the highways clear for robots which are carrying shelves. The floors contain QR codes which help the robots navigate through the warehouse. They are capable of object detection to avoiding collision with other robots or objects. When the necessary shelf is identified, the robot creeps under it and lifts it up and carries it towards the respective employee. If there is a queue near the employee, the robot takes its place at the end of the queue.

6. Murata’s Cheerleader Robots:

These cheerleader robots have a ball as their base, so they move by rolling it. They have great balance thanks to three gyro sensors. A host computer is used to give each robot commands on what their next positions are. These robots could communicate through a wireless network to identify each other’s relative positions and adjust themselves according to the received commands or to avoid colliding with each other. They dance to music using preprogrammed moves with perfect synchronization.
